Three Pylon AMA Class

Three pylon AMA racing consists of three classes:

Class Number Class Name Approx. Speed (MPH) Aircraft Type
424 Sport Quicky 500 90 Rectangle Shapes
428 Quicky 500 140 Rectangle Shapes
422 Quarter 40 150 Semi Scale Reno Racer

Class 424 and 428 fly the same Quicky-500 aircraft. The difference is the engine. Class 424 uses a much less powerful (and less costly) engine for people just starting racing, or those who don't want to invest the money it takes to fly the faster classes. This picture

3 Quicky 500

shows three Q-500 aircraft, two high wing and one low wing. The most popular aircraft being flown today is the high wing V-Tail which you see two of here.
Class 422 aircraft look like real airplanes. They are the fastest AMA class. This picture

Quarter 40

shows a Quarter 40 aircraft.

The race course is a triangular shape with the pilots and their callers inside the trangle. To fly the course, pilots must turn around as they fly the plane around pylons 2 and 3. This picture shows the race course layout from above.
